What To Expect From The 2022 MacBook Air Refresh

Now that Apple has announced the new-look MacBook Pro in 14-inch and 16-inch configurations, all eyes are on the MacBook Air to see what we will get from a refresh of that particular device. And yes, it seems likely we’ll get a notch according to MacRumors.

The notch is something that Apple added to the new MacBook Pros as a way to make more screen real estate available to users and it seems likely that we can expect a similar move for the new MacBook Air, too.

In terms of overall design, rumors over the last few months have suggested that we will see the removal of the current tapered design, with Apple instead opting for a more traditional notebook shape. Imagine the new MacBook Pro machines but thinner and that is very likely to be what Apple ships as the next MacBook Air.

Another feature borrowed from the new MacBook Pro is the return of MagSafe. In fact, it’s safe to assume that all of Apple’s forthcoming Mac notebooks will benefit from magnetic charging — and that’s absolutely fine by us!

We should also expect multiple colors to be offered, too. A 13-inch mini-LED screen is likely to take care of the display, but anything large seems less likely.

Inside, a new M2 chip is the one we’re all looking forward to with future MacBook Pros set to benefit from M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. The timeline works as well, with Apple expected to bring a new MacBook Air to market around the middle of next year — although anywhere in the first half of the year is also a potential launch window.
