Apple CEO John Ternus has addressed ongoing supply shortages affecting the iPhone Duo, while also commenting on reports of display issues that have resulted in a small number of devices being returned.
Speaking in an interview following Apple’s latest quarterly earnings announcement, Ternus acknowledged that demand for the company’s first foldable iPhone continues to exceed available supply. He also confirmed that Apple is aware of display-related problems affecting a limited number of units and is replacing affected devices.

Apple’s first foldable smartphone has proven to be a popular addition to its iPhone lineup, with demand continuing to outpace the company’s ability to manufacture enough units.
During the interview, Ternus confirmed that the iPhone Duo remains supply-constrained, although he said production ramp-up is progressing well.
“Duo is constrained as of today,” Ternus said. “The ramp is going well, and we’re working hard to get it to as many customers as quickly as possible, but at this point, we’re not able to predict when supply and demand will be in balance.”
This means prospective buyers may have to wait considerably longer before they can get their hands on the device.
Apple’s online store has continued to show shipping estimates extending into late January. These estimates have remained largely unchanged since iPhone Duo preorders first opened on October 16, when initial availability sold out almost immediately.
Unfortunately, Ternus has not provided a timeline for when customers can expect supply to catch up with demand. Apple’s comments suggest that the company is still working through production constraints and cannot yet determine when availability will improve.
Alongside supply constraints, Ternus also addressed concerns surrounding iPhone Duo display problems, including reports of cracking affecting some devices.
The issue has attracted attention since the foldable iPhone became available, with questions being raised about the durability of its display.
Ternus offered a brief response, confirming that a very small percentage of iPhone Duo units had been returned because of display issues.
Apple is replacing the affected devices with new units, rather than leaving customers with faulty hardware.
While the company has acknowledged that the problem exists, its latest comments suggest that the number of affected devices remains very limited compared to the overall number of iPhone Duo units in circulation.
Apple has not provided a detailed explanation of what is causing these display problems or whether any manufacturing changes have been introduced to address them.
For now, the company appears to be handling affected devices through its replacement process.
Interestingly, Apple’s latest quarterly earnings report did not include any iPhone Duo sales figures. The reporting period covered July through September, while the foldable iPhone did not officially go on sale until October.
However, the device’s continued shipping delays indicate that Apple is facing considerable demand for its newest smartphone category.
The bigger question now is how quickly Apple can increase production and whether it can resolve the reported display problems as more units reach customers.
For prospective buyers, the immediate situation remains unchanged: iPhone Duo availability is limited, shipping estimates are still extending into January, and Apple cannot yet say when supply will finally catch up with demand.
