Tesla Has Updated Its App, Adding iPhone Duo And iPad Support

Tesla has updated its app for Apple’s platforms, adding support for the iPad for the first time. As part of that addition, Tesla also revamped the iPhone app to add support for the iPhone Duo.

Apple’s iPhone Duo will go on sale tomorrow, October 23, and requires developers to update their apps to make proper use of the device.

The unusual outer display aspect ratio, coupled with the larger inner display, means that the layout of iOS itself has changed — and that means that apps need to be tweaked to take full advantage of that.

The lack of an iPad app has always been a curiosity, so the addition of one will be a popular change from Tesla. Previously, iPad owners had to use the iPhone app, which meant that it wasn’t designed to work properly with the larger display.

Now, the iPad app uses two columns and places navigation and controls on the left while the vehicle can be found on the right.

MacRumors notes that the new app “provides access to features such as climate, charging, and security, alongside a large rendering of the car and shortcuts for vehicle controls.” Those with a Tesla solar power and battery setup can also view their home, including power flow, a Powerwall, and more.
