When Apple unveiled the new M5 Max and M5 Ultra Mac Studio earlier this year, it confirmed that there would be a new 512GB version available at a later date. Today, alongside the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display, Apple unveiled that new Mac Studio — as well as its incredible price.
Given the global RAM shortage and price increases, it was always going to be an expensive machine. But now we know how expensive. Apple’s online store now offers the 512GB upgrade for the M5-series Mac Studio, but only for the M5 Ultra with a 36-core CPU and 8-core GPU. Adding the 512GB RAM upgrade adds $15,500 to the price of the base configuration, which ships with 96GB as standard.

As a result, this new configuration option means that you can pay a whopping $29,799 for a Mac Studio if you choose the M5 Ultra, 512GB of RAM, and the maximum 16TB of storage. And even if you do decide that the performance is worth the outlay, you’ll have to wait — the 512GB configuration won’t arrive until late November or early December, Apple says.
The new 512GB Mac Studio upgrade wasn’t the only eye-watering price announced today. The new OLED MacBook Pros command a price premium over the standard models, with the 14-inch version starting at $2,899 and the 16-inch version starting at $3,399. Both of those come with the M5 Pro, while an M5 Max upgrade is also available.
