As the rumors have claimed for months now, Apple today announced its first touchscreen laptops.
The new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display sits above the current MacBook Pro models, with M5 Pro and M5 Max configurations available.

Apple says that the new PROLED XDR Display offers a 2,000-nit peak HDR and SDR brightness as well as an industry-leading 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio.
It maintains the same 120Hz variable refresh rate and wide color gamut that MacBook Pro owners have become accustomed to, with the addition of touch capabilities for the first time.
The new display also does away with the familiar notch, replacing it with an iPhone-like Dynamic Island.

Touch also introduces entirely new ways of working for pro users. Graphic designers can now use the entire display as their canvas, no longer constrained by the area of the trackpad when drawing; musicians can play software instruments right onscreen; and app developers can test how Touch performs in their iOS and iPadOS apps directly on the MacBook Pro display. And these new ways to interact with MacBook Pro work in tandem with the keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures pros know and love. In addition, a newly designed hinge provides greater stability while using Touch, and advanced video stabilization automatically smooths the camera feed in real time while using Touch on a video call.

Apple also notes that the new laptops are thinner than the standard MacBook Pro models, with the 14-inch model half a pound lighter and the 16-inch model 0.7 pounds lighter.

The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Displays are available for preorder today and will go on sale on Friday, November 6. Prices start at $2,899 for the M5 Pro 14-inch model and $3,399 for the M5 Pro 16-inch model. M5 Max versions are also available starting at $4,499 and $4,799, respectively.
