Third-Party MagSafe Wireless Charger For iPhone 12 Announced Ahead Of Apple Event

Apple is set to announce a new round of iPhones later today and there is talk of a new magnetic wireless charger in the offing, too. Now, a third-party version appears to have been outed by Japanese website Macotakara.

According to their report, MPOW has already announced a wireless charger that connects to the back of the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro using the built-in magnets that we saw leak earlier this year.

MPOW JAPAN Co., Ltd. (Location: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, Representative: Takehiko Komazaki) announces a wireless charger that supports the charging position adjustment function using a magnet, which is a new wireless charging mechanism installed in the new ‌iPhone‌.

The theory seems to be that you can place the charger onto the back of your iPhone and then have it charge without moving around. It’s super similar to the MagSafe MacBook and MacBook Pro chargers we loved so much back in the day.

It’s also worth noting that these kinds of MagSafe chargers won’t charge any other devices, too. These will be iPhone 12-only, something that could potentially put buyers off.

Apple is expected to announce its own MagSafe wireless charger later today when it announces its 2020 suite of iPhones and the rumored HomePod mini. We’ll be watching along to see exactly what Apple has lined up for us. Will you?
