iPhone 14 Might Not Ditch The Notch After All, New Report Suggests

Despite the iPhone 13 lineup having only been around for a matter of weeks, rumors of a future iPhone 14 product are already rife. Previous reports by leaker Jon Prosser had Apple ditching the notch for iPhone 14 Pro Max at least — but what about the other devices?

Now a new MacRumors report, based on a deleted Weibo post, suggests that the notch might be hanging around for a while.

However, it isn’t immediately obvious whether that is because Prosser is wrong or if only the iPhone 14 Pro Max will be notch-free.

Even if the ‌iPhone 14‌ introduces a hole-punch design, it will be hard for Apple to abandon the notch altogether, according to a now-deleted post on Weibo from @PandaIsBald. The account, which accurately predicted that the ninth-generation iPad would be announced at the September Apple event, claimed that it is “unlikely” that Apple will replace the notch entirely with a hole-punch cutout, and instead, the ‌iPhone 14‌ may continue to feature a notch but with a smaller footprint.

The fact the Weibo post has now been deleted does suggest something isn’t quite right here. We still have almost a year before Apple will announce the next round of iPhones and there is plenty of time for new leaks between now and then.

If we had to guess, we’d hope that both stories are correct. It’s possible Apple is keen to use a hole-punch camera in at least one device, while the rest of the lineup will get a notch.
