M2 MacBook Air And M2 MacBook Pro Release Date Rumored To Be Around 2023

M2 MacBook Air and M2 MacBook Pro expected release date rumored to be around 2023 now. Here are the details.

Apple was initially expected to announce a new M2-powered MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook during its March 8 event and while that ultimately didn’t happen, the expectation is now that we will see both machines later this year.

According to a new report by 9to5Mac, Apple will announce the new M2 chip to replace the current M1 that sits in the existing 13-inch MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air. The chip will presumably also make its way into a new Mac mini at some point, too.

Codenamed J413, the next generation MacBook Air is expected to be released in a single version featuring M2. As detailed in our article about the new Mac mini, the M2 chip (internally known as “Staten”) is based on the A15 chip. Although it has an eight-core CPU just like M1, M2 will bring a more powerful 10-core GPU.

The chip will not be more powerful than the M1 Pro, M1 Max, or M1 Ultra but we can expect new M2 variants of those chips to arrive in due course, likely next year.

While the same M2 chip is set to arrive in both the 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air, it’s being suggested that the former might do away with the ‘Pro’ moniker, marking a return of the MacBook name. Externally, the machine is expected to look the same as the current model, including the Touch Bar.
