M2 / M1 Pro Mac Mini Isn’t Coming Until 2023 [Report]

An M2 or M1 Pro Mac mini isn’t coming until at least next year says Kuo. Here are the details on this.

Apple recently announced the new Mac Studio, a Mac mini-type machine that offers M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips.

The current Mac mini uses M1 chips and it now sounds like we could be waiting until next year to see what a more powerful option will look like.

Writing on Twitter, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that the new, more powerful Mac mini is now not expected until 2023 alongside the refreshed Mac Pro and iMac Pro. Recent reports suggest that Apple will put a brand new M2 chip into a MacBook Air and 13-inch MacBook Pro later this year, and many would have expected Apple to refresh the Mac mini at the same time.

It isn’t really clear whether this “more powerful Mac mini” is an M2 machine or one capable of housing a ‘Pro’ variant, similar to the current M1 Pro. Both chips would be an improvement over the current M1 that the Mac mini ships with, further confusing things.

The M2 chip is expected to come with an 8-core CPU, similar to that of the M1, but with more GPU cores. Similarly, upgraded M2 Pro chips are expected to come with more chips than the M1 Pro, although details are currently sketchy.
