iOS 27 Apple CarPlay Features: Here’s What Is New

Apple announced that it intended to allow iPhone owners to watch videos via CarPlay during WWDC 2025, but the feature has yet to ship. A year later, Apple says that iOS 27 will bring the feature to new cars that support it.

The feature, MacRumors reports, will be available to iPhone owners in the same car whenever they play a video that supports AirPlay. They’ll then be able to select CarPlay as the destination for the video.

It’ll then play on the CarPlay display. With iOS 27, Apple is also allowing developers to make CarPlay apps with video browsing abilities, removing the need for AirPlay for some people.

Apple notes that the feature will only be available when the vehicle is parked, ensuring that drivers don’t use it while the vehicle is in motion. There will also be support for iOS 27’s new Siri AI functionality, MacRumors reports.

In addition, the more personal and intelligent version of Siri — aka “Siri AI” — will be available on CarPlay when it is used with an iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Apple offered the following example for using Siri AI via CarPlay: “On the road, ask Siri which trailhead your friend suggested and get the answer instantly.”

A slide shown during the WWDC 2026 keynote also confirmed other new features and improvements for iOS 27’s CarPlay implementation.

  • Audio scrubbing within CarPlay’s Now Playing interface
  • Improved GPS accuracy and navigation heading
  • A mini-player for audio within apps
  • Improved wireless CarPlay reliability

The iOS 27 iPhone software update is currently in beta, but will be made available to the public this fall.
