Kuo: iPhone 12 Shipments Point To The 6.1-Inch Model Being The Most Popular

Apple will likely announce four new iPhones during tomorrow’s media event if the rumors turn out to be true, and according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, shipment numbers suggest that Apple expects the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 to be the most popular of the new releases.

If all goes according to plan Apple will announce the 5.4-inch iPhone mini, 6.1-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro.

According to Kuo, it’s the second one that we can expect to see sell in the biggest numbers.

Kuo’s breakdown of shipments works out like this.

  • iPhone 12 mini 5.4-inch –  20-25%
  • iPhone 12 6.1-inch – 40-45%
  • iPhone 12 Pro 6.1-inch – 15-20%
  • iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7-inch –  15-20%

None of this should be all that surprising, however. The iPhone 12 in 6.1-inch guise is the replacement for the iPhone 11, Apple’s best selling iPhone right now. That was the replacement for the iPhone XR, also Apple’s best seller during the time it was Apple’s mid-range monster. There’s little reason for that to change with this year’s handsets.

Unlike other mid-range iPhones however, the iPhone 12 will include an OLED screen and 5G connectivity. Those alone will make it a strong contender, although the iPhone 12 Pro models are expected to have improved camera systems to warrant the increased cost.

Apple’s media event will kick off tomorrow morning with new iPhones and other untold wonders the order of the day.
