Apple Extends Its AirPods Pro Crackling Repair Program By 1 More Year

Apple has extended an AirPods Pro repair program that was initiated to help deal with an issue that caused some earbuds to crackle during use. The issue sometimes seems like static or Active Noise Cancellation-specific issues,

Apple has extended the program which first kicked off in October of 2020, for a further year, ensuring people can get a replacement AirPods Pro earbud should they experience the issue.

Anyone who bought AirPods Pro at launch in 2019 is now covered until October 2022, while those who bought AirPods in 2020 prior to October will have until 2023 to get their earbuds replaced.

Apple has determined that a small percentage of AirPods Pro may experience sound issues. Affected units were manufactured before October 2020.

An affected AirPods Pro may exhibit one or more of the following behaviors:

  • Crackling or static sounds that increase in loud environments, with exercise or while talking on the phone
  • Active Noise Cancellation not working as expected, such as a loss of bass sound, or an increase in background sounds, such as street or airplane noise

Anyone who has a faulty AirPods Pro earbud or two can contact Apple to arrange a replacement, completely free of charge. The new earbud should also be of the new, fixed variety to ensure that a repeat performance isn’t necessary.
