Xcode Reveals Apple Is Working On iOS 14.8 Even As iOS 15 Nears

Apple might already be hard at work getting iOS 15 ready to be shipped to the world next month, but that doesn’t mean that we won’t be seeing new updates arrive before then.

New code found in the latest Xcode already shows that iOS 14.8 is in the cards.

The mentions are found alongside updates that have already been released to the public, suggesting that the new update will arrive sooner rather than later. MacRumors also notes that it has seen devices running iOS 14.8 in its analytics, suggesting people inside Apple are already testing the update on some devices.

Apple tends to stop working on iterative updates to previous versions of iOS as it gets closer to the release of big new updates, like iOS 15.

That doesn’t appear to be the case in this instance however, with Apple now getting ready to release iOS 14.8 at some point likely between now and the end of September.

What’s more, Apple has never gotten as far as a .8 update, with previous versions of iOS finishing at .7 at the latest. It isn’t yet clear what this new update will add, but whatever it is it’s clear Apple doesn’t want to wait until iOS 15 to make it available.
