Apple has announced its iOS 27 software update for the iPhone, touting some impressive performance improvements across some common tasks.
Announced during the WWDC 2026 opening keynote, iOS 27 brings with it performance improvements that will make iPhones feel more responsive during everyday use.

This comes after it was rumored that Apple had spent the last year tweaking the iPhone’s software, addressing bottlenecks and bugs.
According to Apple, iPhone owners can expect apps to launch up to 30% more quickly, with loading new photos in the Photos app set to be up to 70% faster.
Fans of the AirDrop feature can expect up to 80% faster file transfers, while browsing and transferring files using the Files app on the iPad can expect a whopping 5x speed increase.

Apple also teased other speed improvements across other aspects of the iPhone experience. Switching between cellular and Wi-Fi connections was one activity that Apple called out. The company also confirmed that the iOS 27 update will be available on all of the same iPhones as the current iOS 26 software. This comes after rumors that wouldn’t be the case.
The iOS software update is available to developers in beta form now, with a public beta set to begin next month. The final release will take place this fall, likely alongside the release of the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
