Apple has today announced a newly updated Mac Studio with new M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips and up to 512GB of unified memory.
Apple announced the new Mac Studio upgrades in a post to its Newsroom website, highlighting that the new chips deliver “a monumental leap in AI performance and even faster graphics for the most demanding pro workflows, all in its signature compact design that lives right on a user’s desk.”
Apple also boasts up to 4.3x faster AI performance, up to 2x faster storage, up to 1.8 faster graphics, and up to 1.3x faster CPU speed.
The new M5 Max features an 18-core CPU with up to a 40-core GPU with Neural Accelerators built into each core. This chip can ship with up to 128GB of unified memory.
The premium M5 Ultra Mac Studio can be chosen with up to a 36-core CPU and up to an 80-core GPU paired with a maximum 512GB of unified memory, with the use of high-end LLMs in mind.
In terms of connectivity, the new machines come with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, bringing both to the Mac Studio for the first time. Thunderbolt 5 ports are also offered for super-fast wired connectivity to accessories and displays.
Apple says that the new Mac Studio will be available for pre-order starting today with availability starting from September 22.
