It’s Official: Tesla Cybertruck Is Delayed Until 2022

After rumors suggesting that Tesla’s big new Cybertruck had been delayed, the company has now confirmed that is indeed the case. Cybertruck will now not ship until 2022, despite claims that it would be ready before the end of this year.

Tesla’s 2019 announcement of Cybertruck saw the company claim that it would be ready to ship by the end of 2021.

That’s a date the company now admits isn’t going to happen.

As Electrek reports, Tesla only recently managed to complete the engineering design for the electric pickup truck, something that would have needed to happen some time ago for the company to get trucks ready for the end of this year. However, Tesla continued to stick its head in the sand as recently as its Q2 2021 earnings call.

During the release of its Q2 2021 financial results last month, Tesla kept the same timeline and only specified that Cybertruck production would start at Gigafactory Texas after Model Y.

Now, Tesla has finally admitted that things have gone awry, updating the Cybertruck order page to say that “production nears in 2022.” That’s the case no matter which model you order, so anyone hoping to get their truck sooner by ordering a specific model is out of luck.
