Apple says that it plans to allow heavy Apple Intelligence users to increase their AI limits by paying extra. The news came during Apple’s quarterly earnings call for the third fiscal quarter of 2026.
During the call, MacRumors reports that current CEO Tim Cook said that the company expects to have options available for those who require more AI usage than is offered as standard.
In terms of what it means for compute cost, it’s obviously early going for us, and so I don’t want to say that we have a complete plan for that. We do believe there will be people that want to use it a lot and we will have some kind of upgrade possibilities on iCloud+ where people can buy up the stack on iCloud+. We’ll see how the pickup for that is.
Neither Cook nor Apple has gone into details about what the new upgrades could be, nor how much users can expect to spend on them.
However, features like Siri AI are likely to remain free to use, with the extra payment tiers expected to apply to features like Image Playground and Apple’s cloud compute offerings.
The Siri AI functionality and other Apple Intelligence upgrades are set to launch alongside iOS 27 this fall. However, Siri AI will maintain a beta tag initially.
