References To 16-Inch MacBook Pro Found In macOS Catalina 10.15.1 Beta

We’ve been fielding rumors about a new 16-inch MacBook Pro for weeks, if not months, with some expecting it to be announced before the end of the year. Now new references found in a macOS Catalina 10.15.1 beta might further point to the device’s existence.

Spotted by French blog MacGeneration, a new icon shows what is believed to be the unannounced MacBook Pro. It looks similar to the current 15-inch MacBook Pro but clearly has smaller bezels than any MacBook Pro currently available.

The notebook is seen in both silver and space gray colors with a “16” used in both file names. It’s thought that is in reference to the 16-inch display. MacRumors has also confirmed that the files are available in macOS Catalina 10.15.1 in its current second beta form.

The icons also have a MacBook Pro16,1 model identifier, which hasn’t been used as yet. With that in mind it’s possible this really is the 16-inch MacBook Pro we’ve heard so much about.

Much of that has come from previous Ming-Chi Kuo reports mentioning the existence of a new high-end MacBook Pro in 16-inch configuration. It’s expected to have new processors and a high-resolution screen, two things which should ensure the notebook is priced above existing 15-inch models.

It’s unknown whether the 16-inch MacBook Pro will replace the 15-inch model in the lineup, or sit atop it. If the rumors are true, we won’t need to wait too long before we find out.
