16-Inch MacBook Pro To Ship With 96W USB-C Charger

We’ve been hearing rumors of a new 16-inch MacBook Pro for months with most of the information related to that new display size, but a new report by Chongdiantou, a Chinese website related to ChargerLAB, suggests that the machine might ship with a new 96W USB-C power adapter.

This would be the first time such a charger has been used by Apple, but Chongdiantou was sent a blurry photo of what is supposedly a label from the aforementioned power adapter. It was received via WeChat, with the source claiming the 96W power adapter has a model identifier of A2166.

Interestingly, as MacRumors notes, the upcoming Apple Pro Display XDR will be capable of 96W passthrough charging. That would be a lot more power than any current MacBook Pro needs. But a new 16-inch MacBook Pro, perhaps? It would absolutely make sense.

At this point, we’re pretty sure that a 16-inch MacBook Pro is in the works and it’s possible that it will be announced during an event later this month. New iPad Pro tablets and the Tile-lake UWB trackers are also potential announcements during the same event.

While there’s no way of knowing whether this leak is legitimate, Chongdiantou does have a reasonable track record when it comes to power adapter leaks of this kind. It’s quite possible this is the power adapter we’ll see ship with the new notebook.
