Porsche Announces New CarPlay Radios Designed For Its Old Classic Cars

Porsche has announced a range of new CarPlay radios that can be installed in classic cars going all the way back to the 1960s. But they’re mostly only available in Europe although 1-DIN model is coming to United States as well.

The systems are available in a 1-DIN size for Porsches that have those particular holes in their dashboard. That covers the 911 and more, but there is also a 2-DIN offering for more recent models including the 986 and 996.

Pricing starts at around 1350 Euros and goes from there depending on the particular model that you need. They’re all designed to fit in with the overall look and feel of a classic Porsche dashboard but with the standard CarPlay-enabled touch screen and other modern niceties. They include things like DAB digital radio and more.

As for availability, there will be at least one of the 1-DIN models that will make the trip over the Atlantic. It’ll gain SiriusXM compatibility on the journey as well – something that the EU market doesn’t use.

This is a super interesting move by Porsche and they’ve even made a couple of promo videos to show off their new kit.

It’s going to be weird getting into a 1960s Porsche and firing up Apple Maps, that’s for sure. But we definitely won’t be complaining. We can’t imagine there’s a huge market for these things but if you’re picking one up, sound out on social media.

If you want to do similar thing with your car, be it a Porsche or any other make or model, and you want CarPlay in it, the cheapest way to go about is to install an Android tablet with CarPlay dongle. You can find more details on it here.
