Microsoft made the day for many Windows fans by making a preview build of Windows 8.1 available to download for everyone, free of charge. It's like Christmas came early, except Christmas this year is an unfinished affair, with things likely to change before Christmas-proper comes around.
One of the announcements to come out of today's event opening is the news that a new version of Visual Studio along with .NET Framwork is on the cards. Unimaginatively named Visual Studio 2013, the updated software may not yet be ready for primetime but that hasn't stopped Microsoft by making a developer preview of the said tool available for download immediately.

With Apple's iOS 7 having recently reached the milestone of a second beta release, all the talk has been about those new icons, or the fancy parallax effect that sits behind them. Not much, if any discussion has been taking place about what iOS 7 will offer to those in the business arena. Apple now seeks to change that.

The dramatic overhaul that comes in the form of iOS 7 beta has definitely received split opinion. Adding Control Center to the in-beta iOS means that users can now quickly access commonly used system toggles from anywhere, which is an extremely handy option to have. However, it isn't just iOS users who get the quick access treatment, with Mac users now able to have a similar setup thanks to the third-party Fast Toggles set of utilities. Mozilla has just dropped version number 22 of its popular Firefox browser and with it, brought a whole host of new and exciting features. Included in this release is support 3D gaming, video calls, and file sharing, affording developers enhanced compatibility with less requirement for plugins and other unnecessary third-party installations. The behavior of iOS 7 beta after a screenshot is taken differs significantly from what we've seen hitherto, with active screen touches "no longer canceled when the user takes a screenshot." This, for services like the popular Snapchat, means that the in-built screenshot detection is essentially nullified, and with this being an integral part of that and the likes of Facebook Poke, the security offered by said applications is under serious threat.
