iPhone 15 Pro Again Rumored To Feature Periscope Lens And 5x Zoom

Apple’s iPhone 15 is once again rumored to be gaining a new periscope lens that would bring a new 5x zoom to the iPhone lineup for the first time.

While we’ve heard similar rumors like this before, this is the latest claim to come from analyst Jeff Pu.

In a research note seen by 9to5Mac, Apple has received samples of the parts that would be used and a decision on the final iPhone 15 Pro camera specification is yet to be made.

According to the analyst, Apple is in negotiations with Lante Optics, which is expected to be the main supplier of the periscope lenses to be used in the 2023 iPhones. The report claims that the Cupertino-based company has already received component samples and a final decision should be made by May.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already been talking about such a camera upgrade. A periscope lens allows for increased optical zoom by elongating the distance between the lens and sensor by using a periscope design. That ensures a high level of zoom without putting a huge camera bump on the back of a phone.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 lineup in September 2023 while only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are set to get the new periscope lens.
