iPhone 14 Pro To Feature Pill-Shaped + Circular In-Display Cutouts

There has been a lot of talk about the iPhone 14 Pro’s display of late with the general expectation being that it will ship with a new hole-punch design of some sort, doing away with the familiar notch.

Recent reports have pointed to a new pill-shaped cutout, but a new report today instead says that we should look forward to a two-hole design. One will be a pill-shaped one, the other circular.

That report comes courtesy of Ross Young, a display analyst for DSCC. It’s a design that it’s thought will differentiate Apple’s iPhone look in a way that the notch also did while still managing to look more modern.

The new design will use a cutout for the Face ID dot projector while the pill-shaped cutout is expected to house the front-facing camera a swell as the infrared camera used by the Face ID system.

As MacRumors points out, the image shown by Young actually matches a leak from ShrimpApplePro last September, albeit inverted — the two cutouts are in different locations. It’s likely Young’s image is of a display’s rear, explaining the discrepancy.

It’s expected that Apple will announce the new iPhone 14 lineup during an event in or around September. Expect Apple to announce an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Max during that event with the latter two sporting a new 48-megapixel camera as well as the new display arrangement.
