Instagram Confirms It Is Testing And Working On A New Chronological Feed

Instagram is testing a change to its feed that will effectively break it up into three different ones, allowing users to switch between them. The move will see Home, Favorites, and Following be offered up with two of those being chronologically sorted.

The move was announced by Instagram chief, Adam Mosseri, via a Twitter video, with some users now seeing the change in their feeds.

Mosseri says that the change will come to everyone’s Instagram apps “soon” but didn’t give a firm timeline. The three new feeds will all show content in slightly different ways:

Home will be where people normally see content and will be the same as what people see now. Instagram will suggest content based on what its algorithm believes they want to see.

Favorites will allow people to choose a collection of accounts that they absolutely don’t want to miss.

Following will show a chronological timeline of every account that is being followed, working in much the same way as people would prefer the main feed does. Mosseri says that the change will be important in the future because the Home feed will change in the future — gaining more recommendations based on that algorithm.

Do you see the new feeds in your Instagram app yet? Which of the three feeds do you see yourself spending the most time in?
