Future iPhone Retail Boxes Rumored To Ditch Almost All Accessories And Be “Thinner And Exquisite”

There’s been a ton of talk of late about whether Apple intends to launch this year’s iPhones without EarPods in the box. Lately, we’ve seen more rumors suggesting that Apple will even ditch the wall chargers that come with every iPhone as well.

Now a previously accurate leaker says that the same will happen to future iPhone SE packaging as well.

Not only will Apple remove almost everything from the boxes that will carry these new iPhones, but leaker L0vetodream also says that we can expect the boxes themselves to change considerably. So much that they’ll be “exquisite” by the time Apple is finished with them.

Both analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and his contemporaries at Barclays have suggested that the removal of chargers and earphones is likely this year, although this is the first time the iPhone SE has been mentioned.

The reasons behind moving away from shipping earphones and a charger in the box come down to two main things; the cost, and the ability to reduce the amount of waste generated.

Many, many people don’t use the EarPods that ship with iPhones and the argument is that most people don’t need the charger that comes in the box, too. If Apple can reduce the number of accessories that ultimately are never used, that’s a good thing. It can also reduce the size of the boxes which in turn reduces the amount of space needed when transporting them. That, in turn, means less fuel is used and the consequences of that are obvious.

Apple being able to make an iPhone box that’s “exquisite” no doubt also appeals to those within Apple, even since the loss of Jony Ive.
