iPhone 12 Will Not Ship With EarPods In The Box As Apple Plans AirPods Promotion [Report]

All eyes are on Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup for 2020 and whether they will arrive in September or October. But there’s an interesting new twist after analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested in a new research note that the iPhone 12 won’t come with EarPods in the box.

Apple has shipped EarPods in the box for years and there’s a good chance that many of them never leave the box.

With that in mind it makes plenty of sense, especially as Apple continues to sell AirPods and AirPods Pro in crazy numbers.

At the same time Kuo, in a research note seen by MacRumors, noted that he expects AirPods sales to benefit from increased demand with shipments as high as almost 94 million units for the year.

However, ‌AirPods‌ shipments will benefit from increasing demand beginning in the third quarter, coupled with continuing strong demand for AirPods Pro throughout the year buoyed by Apple’s expected promotional offer in the second half of 2020. Overall, Kuo predicts shipments to grow from his original estimate of 80-90 million pairs to 93.8 million pairs.

Apple is expected to refresh AirPods later this year with the cheaper wireless earbuds getting the same in-ear design as AirPods Pro but without the active noise cancellation features that make AirPods Pro so compelling. Such a refresh will also likely drive demand from both new and existing AirPods customers.
