Apple’s Unannounced homeOS Has Appeared In A Job Listing Again

Earlier this year we saw the homeOS name pop up in a job description despite there being no software currently available under that name. That reference was eventually removed from the job listing, but that wasn’t the end of the story. The same homeOS name has appeared again.

Apple already offers iOS, tvOS, iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS, but there is no homeOS right now.

It’s possible someone inside Apple is working on such a software, however. And now it’s appeared in another job listing — this time asking for a senior engineer to work on Apple Music.

The job listing has since been removed but the summary read:

Are you passionate about Music? The Apple Music team is looking for stellar software engineers to create awesome listening experiences for our over 1 billion active users. Our team enjoys a tremendous impact — we are one of the first applications on every new Apple platform, and our app is often featured in Keynotes and in marketing materials. The experiences you enable are sure to be tweeted and blogged about all over the internet. You’ll get to work with system engineers across Apple, learning the inner-workings of iOS, watchOS, tvOS and homeOS, and optimizing your code for performance in ways only Apple can. Come join our team and make a real difference for music lovers worldwide.

It isn’t clear what’s going on here, although it is just possible that someone inside Apple has made the same mistake they made last time. It’s also possible that homeOS is the name of software that is used inside Apple. Could Apple be working on something that ties multiple HomeKit systems into something new?

Hopefully we’ll find out eventually.
