You Can Now Request An Invitation To Buy A PS5

If you’re still struggling to get your hands on a new PS5 18 months after it was released, you might be interested to hear that Amazon is making changes to the way it sells Sony’s console.

Now, people won’t need to hope that they are the quickest to click the Buy button when it appears on the PS5 product page here — instead, they can request an invitation to buy.

The change will mean that when PS5 stick is available, and you’re chosen by Amazon, you’ll receive an email with a link. You’ll then have three days to make a purchase via that link — but if you don’t, it’ll be too late.

This new system is only available on the version of the PS5 with a disc drive, however, as can also be seen in the screenshot of the listing below.

Available by invitation
High-demand item with limited quantities. We won’t be able to grant all requests.

Why Invitations?
To ensure that as many genuine customers as possible can buy this high-demand item, we sell it by invitation.

If invited to purchase, you’ll get an email when the item is available. Not all requests will be granted.

Getting hands on a new console has been an ongoing battle amid stock shortages and scalpers using bots to buy up the few consoles that become available. The COVID-19 pandemic and component shortages have so far made it impossible for some to buy the console they want, but this approach may help things moving forward.
