WhatsApp Is Testing Showing Status Updates In Chats List On iOS And Android

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will put people’s Status updates into the main chat view.

The change is now available in the current beta program version of WhatsApp but is not yet ready to be made available to people using the version of the app that is in the App Store.

The Status feature is one that was added a few years ago and allows people to create something similar to Instagram Stories. With the latest beta isntalled, when someone shares a new Status update, people will see that in their lust of chats. Status updates will also appear as part of search results, too.

The new change was reported by WABetaInfo, with users seeing the new Status update after tapping on the user’s profile picture.

If the user clicks on the chat cell, WhatsApp opens the conversation with the contact but if they click on the profile picture of the contact that published a status update, their status update shows up. Surely more people will start viewing status updates published by their contacts after the release of this feature.

There is currently no indication of when, or even if, this new feature will be made available to everyone. The Status feature isn’t one that appears to be heavily used by WhatsApp users currently and it’s possible this new feature is aimed a changing that.
