Apple brought MagSafe back to the Mac with the hugely popular release of the latest 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro notebooks. Those machines are much loved for a variety of reasons including their gorgeous screens and stunning performance.

But the return of MagSafe was also a popular move, but just how does the new version compare to the old one? That’s something YouTube channel ChargerLAB set out to find out.

Apple released a 140W charger last year. And it also added a magnetic MagSafe 3 port. But we noticed this time, Apple called it MagSafe 3. So, what’s the difference between the MagSafe 3 and the previous MagSafe 2?

The most obvious change is the new connector that allows the cable to be completely removed from the charger. It uses USB-C, whereas the older MagSafe 2 charger used a molded proprietary situation that meant replacing the entire thing if something broke. That’s no longer the case.

In terms of power, the new MagSafe 3 charger runs at up to 140W as well, allowing the 16-inch MacBook Pro and beyond to be charged in a speedy fashion.
