The iPhone 12 Pro Camera Can Measure A Person’s Height Using Its LiDAR Scanner

Apple’s iPhone 12 Pro is the first iPhone to sport a LiDAR scanner, allowing it to get a better feel for the world around it. The iPad Pro already offers the same feature but now users can put the same functionality into their pocket.

And it turns out a LiDAR Scanner enables the iPhone 12 Pro to measure someone’s height surprisingly accurately.

It can even measure someone’s seated height when they’re sat down, too.

Apple says that the Measure app is what you’ll want to use and the measurement should be calculated instantly and on-screen.

On iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, you can use the Measure app to instantly measure a person’s height from the floor to the top of their head, hair, or hat. (You can even measure the seated height of a person in a chair.)

Using the new feature is pretty simple. With the Measure app open, make sure that the person you’re measuring is visible head-to-toe. After a moment the iPhone should draw a line that shows their height. You can even take a photo of the measurement by tapping the shutter button. That photo can then be saved to the Photos app for use later.

This feature will obviously also be available on the iPhone 12 Pro Max when it goes on sale on November 13.
