Certain parts of iOS have remained pretty much identical since they first saw light back in 2007. When placed side by side with earlier versions - back before it was even called iOS - the software will look different and there are many traces of evolution, but there is quite a large part of the software that has been left untouched in the last five years.
It had been a long time coming, with web browsing individuals all over the world crying out for Google to bring their popular Chrome browser to Apple's iOS mobile platform. Some of us didn't think it would come thanks to Apple's tight hold over how iOS is used, but day two of the Google I/O conference proved the doubters wrong with mobile Chrome being made available for immediate download via the official App Store.
If you haven’t opened up the Cydia store recently then you might be taken aback with shock when you realize that Thor - a new package - has just been released. Unfortunately, we aren't seeing the Norse god of thunder and lightning taking up residency in the jailbreak world, but instead, a new tweak from ClausCartel brings some additional Wi-Fi related options to users.
Google is firing on all cylinders at Google I/O 2012. They’ve announced a new, much improved version of Android – Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, an accompanying Nexus tablet that’s getting rave reviews, new and updated Google apps and services and, more recently, Google Chrome for iOS devices.
The official iOS App Store is packed to the brims with apps, so much that Apple is actually in the process of rewriting their search algorithms to allow better experiences on the store. Out of all the apps which Apple accept and allow on the store, some of the most popular offerings live within the Social Networking category. The WhatsApp mobile app is undoubtedly the most popular out of those, consistently sitting at the top of the download charts with over fifty million downloads.
Whenever Apple announces a new major build of iOS, it is always seeded to registered developers in the first instance, with the theory being that they can test out their apps for compatibility and ready them for the final build and also file bug reports which they find with Apple. In that sense, Apple tends to treat their registered developers as there own tried and trusted software testers, something that has worked out well historically.
The second beta version of iOS 6 - currently only available to registered developers - has just landed, and thanks to Dev Team’s Redsn0w, it can be jailbroken already on A4 devices like the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, iPhone 3GS. Of course, the jailbreak is tethered, which means you will need to connect your device to a computer with Redsn0w installed each time your device is turned off or rebooted, but you knew that already.
Anyone who has been in the jailbreaking game for any significant length of time will more than likely have a set of favored packages which always get installed to the device after a fresh jailbreak. As new packages and enhancements become available, that list may become a lengthy one, but the underlying core set of extensions is usually set in stone for a lot of people. Although a relatively new package, the Deck home screen action bar for iPhone and iPod touch managed to quickly make its way to the top of a lot of users charts due its unique implementation and functionality.
I don't imagine that I am the only person in the world who spends most of his day buried face first into an iPhone, iPad or MacBook. And in that respect, said devices become something I depend on and can't honestly get my day's social and professional work done without them. It sounds pretty weird to say out loud, but the three Apple products I use daily have almost become an extension of who I am and I therefore like them set up just right.
Regardless of whether you happen to be an experienced iOS device owner who upgrades to the latest release religiously or are relatively new to the Apple device owning world, it should come as no surprise that an iPhone or iPod touch is an extremely powerful device that rivals anything on the market today. Although an out of the box iDevice experience is an extremely pleasurable one, when combined with a jailbreak, it is taken to a new level with new features and enhancements becoming available.
