Philips Hue And Spotify Announce Partnership To Link Your Music To Your Lights

Philips Hue and Spotify have announced a partnership that will offer a “unique lighting and music integration that links your Philips Hue and Spotify accounts.”

The result is lights that will react to the music that’s currently playing via your Spotify app.

That’s the good news. The bad news for people who only have the Hue Bluetooth bulbs is that you’re out of luck, Philips Hue says that you’ll need to be using the Hue Hub for any of this to work — likely thanks to the need for an internet connection.

There’s more good news though — those who are keen to get in on the action straight away can sign up to get early access to the new feature.

Another negative is that this feature will only work with color-capable lights, so keep that in mind when planning out your next music session — you might need new lights as well as that new hub.

Spotify says that you don’t need one of its Premium accounts for this to work, so people with free ad-based accounts are good to go. Anyone keen to learn more about the new feature, as well as the steps needed to sign up to be one of the early access people, head on over to the Philips Hue website.
