With over four million pre-orders and counting, the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is going to be huge, but while only a handful of countries will see the new devices this coming Friday, September 19th, Apple has just announced that a host of other nations will be joining the party next week. On September 26th, 22 further locations will see the all-new Apple smartphones, and if you're wondering whether yours has been included, check out the full run-down after the break!
As well as its usual, dev-only Developer Previews of OS X Yosemite 10.10, Apple has also released a couple of betas, which public users with Apple IDs can install and check out on their Macs. Today, the third OS X Yosemite beta has been rolled out, and as well as details on how and where to download it from, we've also got the low-down on all the changes made in this latest release after the break.
Given that both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are larger, of higher resolution and offer better keyboard functionality than any previous Apple handset, it stands to reason that productivity will also improve. Folks considering the iWork suite, for example, to be a non-starter on the stuffy iPhone 5s canvas will be able to get their fill one of the newer models, and as per an Apple training document, both the 64GB and 128GB models of each new iPhone will get iWork and iLife apps installed as standard.
As tech consumers, we've something of an affinity to voice assistants, particularly new ones. The massive fuss made when Apple dropped Siri a couple of years ago was equaled by the fanfare surrounding Windows Phone 8.1's Cortana, and while Microsoft's effort is naturally a more refined, well-rounded and personable feature than Siri was at launch, Cortana remains a work in progress. In fact, right now, Microsoft is attempting to spread Cortana beyond the confines of Windows Phone and onto the other major segments of its ecosystem, and a new Windows 9 screenshot offers a sneak peek of how it may eventually take shape on the desktop and tablet.
It's probably fair to say that Microsoft's Xbox One isn't the most portable of things. Even if you ignore the fact that it needs hooking into a power outlet and a big TV screen in order to work, the case that the machine comes in simply doesn't lend itself to being moved around too often. You certainly wouldn't want to take it on a trip, for example.
YouTube has just announced that it will be making some changes to how users can interact with video content in the next few weeks on Android, but only for users in India. As part of the improvement process, YouTube will afford Indian media lovers with the ability to download and save videos to view offline, meaning they can be viewed anytime without an active Wi-Fi or cellular data connection.
Apple has today announced that it has clocked in a record number of pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in its first 24-hours of availability. The number of next-generation iPhone units sold as part of the initial pre-order issue has surpassed 4 million, putting the release on track to be the biggest launch in the Cupertino company's 38-year history. The decision to move to two larger-screen models appears, on the face of things, to be a stroke of genius by Apple as consumers from ten territories ensure initial stock was depleted.
Samsung doesn't usually need any encouragement to do a spot of advertising, and with an ad budget that probably rivals the best of them it has started go use some of those dollars to poke yet more fun at Apple.
Windows Phone may have only just received a notification center to call its very own, but it looks like the desktop version of Windows is about to follow suit. With Windows 9 expected to be officially unveiled on September 30th, new information is popping up about what it will contain all the time, and the latest information has the next version of Microsoft's desktop operating system coming equipped with somewhere to keep all its notifications.
We know that everyone's all super excited about getting their new iPhones on Friday, but when all the deliveries have landed and everyone's finished lining up all night, we're going to need some fancy new apps to install on those shiny new handsets. The App Store's rather full of great apps to download, both free and paid-for, but where do you start?
