Apple today released for download iOS 26.4.2 and iPadOS 26.4.2 IPSW links and OTA update for the iPhone and iPad, with the updates arriving just two weeks after the company released the iOS 26.4.1 and iPadOS 26.4.1 software updates.
Similar to those releases, these new updates are designed to bring new bug fixes to the iPhone and iPad platforms. However, neither of the updates’ release notes has given any clear information on what those bug fixes entail. Apple also released iOS 18.7.8 for devices that cannot be updated to iOS 26 or whose users have chosen not to update to Apple’s latest software.
When checking Apple’s security page for iOS 26.4.2 update, Apple says it has fixed an issue related to “Notifications marked for deletion could be unexpectedly retained on the device – A logging issue was addressed with improved data redaction.”
The new updates are now available as a free download for the iPhone and iPad. You can initiate the download via the Software Update mechanism within the Settings app, or update using IPSW links below.
As for what comes next, Apple is already beta testing iOS 26.5 and iPadOS 26.5 ahead of a public release, but it’s unclear when that will happen. The company is also set to turn its attention to the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 updates that are expected to be announced at the company’s WWDC event in June. Those updates will undergo a months-long beta program before being made available to the public this fall.
If Apple sticks to its usual release cadence, we expect the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 updates to be released alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and much-rumored iPhone Fold.
