New Unreal Engine 5 Demo Revealed Running On PlayStation 5 [Video]

Microsoft has been suffering some flak online of late after its less than exciting Xbox Series X show last week but Sony’s in the good books right now. That’s after an Unreal 5 announcement and demo reel showed off what is real-time footage of a tech demo running on PS5 hardware.

And it looks absolutely stunning!

You can check the full tech demo out in the embedded video and it sure does look good. We’re told that everything is running in-engine and in real-time so we should be able to get something like this when the PS5 ships. Although we’ve seen enough demos like this over the years to remain skeptical.

Also important is the fact that Unreal Engine 5 will support current and next-generation consoles as well as PC, Mac, iOS, and Android. So that’s anything you’re likely to want to play a game on anytime soon then.

Epic says that it wants to be able to offer “photorealism on par with movie CG and real life,” which is certainly a lofty goal and one that we hear pretty much every time a new generation of game consoles is around the corner.

Maybe we’re old and cynical – we are – but we’ll believe a lot of the promises Unreal Engine 5 is making once we have a console in our hands and games on our screens. We’d suggest tempering expectations and hopes until then.
