iOS 12.1 Release Date And eSIM Support Confirmed By Carriers

Apple’s big October 30th event will take place in less than 24 hours, with the company expected to take the wraps off of new iPad Pro tablets as well as new Macs, with the much ignored Mac mini in line to receive its first refresh in over four years.

It’s going to be the final event of the year for Apple, and we’re expecting it to also usher in the arrival of a new software update in the shape of iOS 12.1.

Multiple sources speaking with multiple outlets have started to all-but-confirm that Apple will release iOS 12.1 to the public after Tuesday’s event, with support for the eSIM dual-SIM feature to be activated as part of the release.

This will allow users around the world – China excluded – to be able to use two lines with their iPhones for the first time. Both numbers will be active at the same time which is something that can be a great advantage for anyone who is traveling abroad and wants to be able to enjoy local data rates rather than roaming.

Apple announced that eSIM functionality was coming to the 2018 iPhones when they were announced in September, but that a future software update would be required in order to make it active.

Carriers will also need to specifically support eSIMs in order to have the feature work at all, and Bharti Airtel India is one of those, with the carrier confirming October 30th is the date it expects to see Apple release iOS 12.1.

Hey Nilesh! Please be informed that Esim functionality for iPhone XS Max will be available effective 30-Oct when Apple releases iOS 12.1 Thank you, Anmol P

With the release of iOS 12.1, Apple will be bringing the eSIM functionality to iPhones alongside live Depth Control for the new iPhones. Group FaceTime calls will also be part of the update.
