With Apple currently working on iOS 7 beta and offering bi-weekly beta releases for developers to test, it's easy to forget that it is not the only operating system that Apple has on the fire. OS X Mavericks 10.9 is also under development inside Apple's Cupertino HQ, and it too is currently available to developers as part of the company's Developer Preview program.
So here we are. Right on schedule, Apple unleashed iOS 7 beta 3 upon the world, and it was good. Well, better than beta 2 was at least, but we're getting ahead of ourselves.
iOS 7 Beta 3 download has just been seeded for iPhone 5, 4S, 4, iPad, iPad mini and iPod touch 5 by Apple, allowing those signed up to the company's dev program to check on the progress the Cupertino company has made over the past couple of weeks.
The App Store feels like it has been around forever, or at least it does to this long-time iPhone user. To mark the occasion, several big-name developers have made their games and apps free, and although you may not recognize all of the titles involved in the promotion, there are certainly some gems here.
There has been much talk in the press of Apple's supposed preparation of a budget iPhone device, and today, it would appear as though Techdy has got his hands on the front and rear parts of the elusive low-cost handset. When placed together, they offer a very solid idea of the form the low-cost iPhone could take, and on first impression, we cannot help but feel that it looks incredibly similar to the Nokia Lumia 620.
When it comes to marketing a product, it's fair to say that Samsung likes to break the mold. We've already encountered the rather cringe worthy Samsung Style ad (a play on the popular Gangnam Style from Korean rapper Psy), and now, the company has come through with another rather strange ploy in advertising its flagship Galaxy S4. Featuring a bunch of guys performing pop-like synchronized dance moves in balaclavas, it plays over a dubstep tune and ends with a goat sat in the middle of a mountainous area. Strange? We certainly think so.
Moviefone has just dropped a rather interesting new poster for the Steve Jobs-based movie starring Ashton Kutcher. Jobs, which is set to release worldwide on 16th of August, is greatly anticipated within tech circles, and never shy of a tagline or slogan himself, this poster of very first flick telling the story of the great man features one of its own. "Some see what's possible, others change what's possible" appears to be the take-home message from this most colorful of posters, which sees Kutcher made up as a very passable double to the late, great Apple co-founder.
It's that time of year again when Apple takes it upon themselves to remove some of the pain that is commonly associated with full and part-time education. The Cupertino based company has once again kept up with what is becoming an annual tradition by announcing this year's "Back to School" promotion, which includes some great discounts for those embarking on their studies. In addition to the education based discounts, Apple is also extending the campaign by rewarding those who purchase an iPhone with a $50 gift card that can be redeemed through iTunes. More details on the offer can be found right after the jump.
The Evad3rs team brought some respite late last year with the release of the Evasi0n jailbreak tool, and now a screenshot posted by seasoned developer Ryan Petrich suggests the road to a jailbreak on iOS 7 may not be so treacherous. No details were associated with his screen cap posted on Twitter yesterday of jailbroken iOS 7 beta, but even at this very early stage, things do look very promising indeed.
In the technology blogosphere, anything to do with Apple and Samsung rivalry gains an extra spice almost instantly, even if it’s something as indirect as Apple’s microprocessor deal with the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for the preparation of the Cupertino giant’s sophisticated microprocessor chips being used in the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. Yes, after almost 3 years, Apple has finally managed to sign a deal with TSMC for the SoCs used in its iDevice lineup, resulting in the former moving away from relying on Samsung for the processor component.
