The deal that saw Apple acquire Beats Electronics was one of the biggest stories so far this year. Sure, we were flabbergasted by Facebook's $16 billion purchase of WhatsApp, partially because of the sheer amount of money changing hands, but given the Cupertino company’s conservative spending habits, this one came a little out of the blue. Apple has consistently stayed away from big-money buyouts, and the decision to snap up the Dr. Dre-founded company also signaled the first time that the Mac maker opened its wallet for a well-known company. Now, with the $3 billion agreement having been given the rubber stamp of approval, Beats has been given its own special space on the Apple retail site, where you might find headphones, speakers, and… oh - more headphones.
Apple has just made available a new version of iTunes for Mac OS X and Windows, with bug fixes the order of the day. More details on what’s new and where to download it from can be found right here.
We may be only a couple of months beyond this year's WWDC, but even as the Apple developer community is working its way towards a big iOS 8 release, attentions are beginning to turn towards next year's event.
Apple's iPhone 6 is apparently being unveiled on September 9th, and although we'd gathered plenty of details already, we've now got some unofficial confirmation of several key features. It's naturally assumed, given the A7 processor of the iPhone 5s, that Apple will bundle an improved A8 chip into the next handset, and along with improved Wi-Fi and Touch ID, this will definitely be the case.
Apple's iPhone 6 is easily the most eagerly-anticipated handset of the year, and while most smartphones get their fair share of leaks and such, the forthcoming iPhone has been speculated on for the best part of six months. In the past couple of weeks, we've seen parts leaks aplenty as the manufacturing process commences, and now, one of our favorite designers has utilized his skills to present us with an all-singing, inside-and-out look at the iPhone 6. Like most of the changes that have been made to the iPhone through the generations, the improvement in the battery capacity of Apple's smartphone has been meager at best. Sure, tweaks to the processor and other optimizations have allowed the battery retention to improve, but given that the next-gen handset looks set to include a larger display, NFC and other improvements, there's no doubt that the battery's capacity must also increase to cope with the workload. We've heard reports that the 4.7-inch model will include a battery of around the 1,900mAh mark, with that number changing dependent on the source, but with around one month to go until the purported announcement, it would appear that the figure may be as high as 2,100mAh.
The iPhone 6 has been one of the most talked-about releases of this calendar year in the world of tech, and although we've long since suspected that September will be the month of its long-awaited announcement, we may now have a firm date.
