Download iPhone OS 3.1.3 Firmware

Apple today has unexpectedly released the new iPhone 3.1.3 firmware for iPhone 3G/3GS and iPod touch. This is not the same version which runs on the newly announced Apple iPad (OS 3.2). To update to iPhone OS 3.1.3 Firmware, all you will have to do is to connect your iPhone with your computer via usb and start iTunes. You should now see a message as shown below. Simply click on “Download and Install” button to get on to the new iPhone OS 3.1.3 firmware.

In the midst of all the iPad hype, what everyone seems to have missed was a leaked image of the next generation iPhone by Apple in one of the leaked images of iPad, which Engadget had posted just a few hours before the official announcement. As you can see from the image below, the form factor mostly remains the same as iPhone 3G/3GS except for the few finer improvements here and there. But what we can expect from Apple is some drastic changes underneath the shell with a faster processor, a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, camera on the front for video conferencing, support for WiFi-N standard and so on.

This IPCC tethering hack enables you to install carrier bundles that aren't officially signed by Apple on the latest iPhone 3.1.2 firmware. With this, you can connect your iPhone (3G and 3GS only) with your PC or a Mac in a way which enables your PC/Mac to connect to Internet via 3G network on your iPhone.

Apple has just announced the availability of iTunes 9.0.3 for both Windows and Mac. This looks more like a stability and bug fix release which addresses issues like “problems when syncing some Smart Playlists and Podcasts with iPod” and various other bug fixes.

It also enables users to personalize iPhone firmwares with customized boot and recovery logos without having to use iTunes as there are no custom IPSW files involved.
