Apple’s Smallest iPhone 12 Looks Set To Be Called iPhone 12 Mini

If all goes according to plan we expect Apple to announce two iPhone 12 and two iPhone 12 Pro models next month. The usual September release window has been and gone because of delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic, but the new phones will come soon enough.

When they do, it sounds like we’re going to get an all-new name – iPhone 12 mini.

According to anonymous Twitter account @L0vetodream, Apple’s smallest iPhone – coming in at 5.4 inches diagonally – will be called the iPhone 12 mini. Above that, we’ll see iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro while the largest of them all will be called iPhone 12 Pro Max.

Much of that is exactly what we’d been expecting, but the name iPhone 12 mini is something that we weren’t sure about. There had been some suggestions that Apple could go the same route as the iPad and use the word mini, but there was nothing confirmed by any stretch of the imagination.

If this turns out to be accurate 2020 will be the first year where we see an iPhone using the mini moniker. It’s been used in the iPad lineup for years, however, and there was an iPod mini way back in the day as well.

Apple is expected to announce the new iPhones within weeks, so we don’t have too much longer to wait before we know for sure exactly what Apple has up its sleeve.
