It's absolutely true that there is an app for just about everything on the App Store. If you want to take notes, there's more than enough choice out there. It's the same if you want a particular genre of game, too. There's one type of app we've not really come across before, though, and it goes by the way of Kount.ly.
Any person who appreciates beautiful and understated design will understand the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into producing a unique, one of a kind timepiece and will understand the price tag associated with classic watches. If new reports are to be believed then it looks like Tim Cook and Apple know all too well just how much it can cost to get their hands on the rights to use probably one of the most famous clock-faces in the world. As part of their development of iOS 6, Apple paid approximately $21 million to license the use of the Swiss clock-face design.
Those who are fans of photography and regularly use their iPhone and iPod touch to capture images will understand that great photographs come in all shapes and forms and can be captured at any location. A lot of apps on the iOS App Store concentrate on allowing users to touch-up images with effects and splashes of color, but what about those photography fans who love nothing more than the simplistic beauty and innocence of a black and white photograph? Thankfully, the App Store has a number of apps dedicated to this art, with one of the best around being the Hueless app from Curious Satellite.
Setting reminders and alerts based on a location isn't really anything new in terms of the underlying technology, but as we have seen so many times in the past, things seem to come to the forefront when large companies like Apple or Facebook adopt them and put them them back into the public eye. With the launch of iOS 5, Apple brought us the stock Reminders app that features location aware reminders and to-do tasks, but now thanks to the Location Alerts app for iPhone we also have the ability to schedule text messages and calls based entirely on location.
Here at Redmond Pie, we of course love our tech news. But as much as we enjoy following Apple versus Samsung, Facebook's latest changes, or Windows Phone 8, what we really look forward to is that rare, ingenuous geeky product or concept that comes along only every once in a while. As much as it entertains us to see a new implementation to iOS 6 or a great Android mod, nothing in the regular flow of tech coverage could really compete with, say, a smartphone which also made toast. While we're probably a way off a crispy, golden-brown breakfast accompaniment, one intuitive soul at a London university has created to type using a keyboard made out of paper. Sounds interesting? Read more after the break.
Version 5.0 of Evernote has just been released to the App Store for those toting an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, and if you're anxious to hear the full round up of new features, you can catch all of the details after the jump!
We've been teased by Rovio with screenshots and short video casts over the last few weeks showcasing their latest edition to the extremely popular Angry Birds franchise, but now the wait is finally over as Angry Birds Star Wars is officially available to purchase.
The much anticipated update to the official Apple Store app for iOS is out! The new version 2.4 lets you buy gift cards directly from the app which you can then send to your family and friends. These gift cards are said to be compatible with Passbook feature in iOS 6, in U.S. only for now.
It has been a long time coming, but a version of Microsoft Office for iOS and Android is real, and while currently in the works, will be arriving early next year. As is frequently the case, the iOS version for iPhone and iPad will drop first, with an Android edition landing over at the Google Play Store at some point thereafter.
The iPhone is more than capable of taking high-quality, crisp images with the embedded camera and stock Camera app, but we have already seen that some of the most popular apps on the App Store live in the Photography section. Image manipulation apps of all types exist on the store, with the most recent one being the Alt Photo creation that lets users manually edit the image to recapture the look and feel of old film.
