PS5 Jailbreak Is Getting Closer To Release

The hacking group known as Fail0verflow says that it has made some big progress in its efforts to make the PS5 a console that can be jailbroken. The team needs to break through some of the PS5’s features to get that done, but things are reportedly ticking along.

According to an MSPowerUser post, the team says that the team is closer to being able to decrypt portions of the PS5’s firmware.

An a recent Twitter post, Fail0verflow proudly stated that “Another one bites the dust,” after uncovering “PS5 root keys,” which can be used to decrypt portions of the PlayStation 5’s firmware.

For now, the hacking group are keeping quiet on exactly how they’ve managed this development, as they likely don’t want to give Sony any clues about just what needs to be patched and updated in order to keep them out.

That cat and mouse game is something that iPhone jailbreakers will be very familiar with, and the team are now saying little more than the fact that they “got all (symmetric) PS5 root keys. They can all be obtained from software – including per-console root key, if you look hard enough.”

All of this means that we’re now a step closer to people being able to install third-party apps onto PS5s, including emulators and more. However, we’re still quite a way from that being possible — but it’s still great that progress is being made!
