People Accidentally Ordered Xbox One X Consoles On Xbox Series X Launch Day, Thanks To Microsoft’s Confused Branding

Yesterday saw the beginning of Xbox Series X pre-orders in the United States and, as expected, it was a complete mess. Websites failed, stock was insufficient, and it was generally a bad day for everyone.

But it seems the day might have been worse for some in particular – some fans ordered an Xbox One X instead of an Xbox Series X, by accident.

It’s an easy mistake to make thanks to the ridiculous naming and it seems to be one that plenty of people made. Yesterday say the Xbox One X shoot up in the Amazon sales chart, increasing its rating by 747%. However, it’s important to note that the number doesn’t necessarily correlate to orders. But it’s a fair bet that plenty of people ordered incorrectly.

It’s easy to see why, too. With the Xbox Series X not available as a listing at all at times, searching for it did bring the Xbox One X up at the top of the search results. Anyone trying to order too quickly, or ordering for someone else, could have gotten confused and ordered by mistake.

A number of people have also made a more amusing suggestion, here.

It’s possible that these were bots designed to buy Xbox Series X consoles to sell on eBay at a high markup. If that’s the case, those scammers just ended up with a ton of consoles they don’t need and, importantly, nobody wants.

That’s a shame, isn’t it?
