When a company as secretive as Apple has some significant new products in the pipeline, it's only natural that we tech enthusiasts should get a little carried away, and in our insatiable pursuit of the iPhone 6, we appear to have a leak that - in a turn up for the books - doesn't appear to have been faked. New renders, which may well have been intended for case makers, show detailed clues of the handset's curved form factor, as well as revealing that the forthcoming Apple smartphone could be just 6mm thick, 33% thinner than the design of iPhone 5s.
When it comes to advertising a new product, Korean outfit Samsung is famed for pushing the boat out, spending extravagant amounts to ensure that consumers are fully aware of its latest releases. Given that the flagship Galaxy S5 smartphone is now a fortnight old, it's not surprising that we've already seen a swathe of new ads, and in the latest, Samsung makes sure to point out that the device's new camera is superior to that of the iPhone 5s.
If there was ever any doubt that we're now firmly in the midst of an iPhone rumor storm, then it's fairly safe to say that the events of the last few days should put to rest any lingering wonderments.
During the first week of September last year, it was announced that Microsoft was to acquire the devices and services division of Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia for the reported sum of $7.1 billion. With both companies having already established a close relationship thanks to the Lumia-Windows Phone partnership, the transition was always likely to be a smooth one, and with all the regulatory formalities done and dusted, Nokia is now officially a part of Microsoft.
Normally we're only too keen to have the monotony of never-ending iPhone rumors broken by something different, especially if it's not a smartphone. Watches aren't phones, but while we're as keen to see what Apple does when it finally enters the smartwatch fray, we have to admit to being more than a little tired of the constant 'will they, won't they' arguments that fill our Twitter streams on a daily basis.
Since the release of the Evasi0n jailbreak for iOS 7, the number of tweaks - particularly those aimed at revamping the lock screen - has sky-rocketed, and while some lock screen enhancers have sought ways to increase general functionality, others have served only to look pretty. Timely, a new entry to the BigBoss repo, certainly swings toward the vanity side of the scale, offering a completely different perspective on the clock feature.
The OnePlus One is causing something of a stir amongst smartphone aficionados right now. More than just the fact that everyone loves and underdog, the OnePlus One device is genuinely starting to look like it could truly be a the smartphone that the enthusiast market has been looking for. Packing plenty of raw power and a build of CyanogenMod that is more stock Android than not, the One is being inevitably compared with Google's own Nexus 5. Throw in the fact that the OnePlus One costs peanuts as far as high-end smartphones are concerned, and things start to get interesting to say the least.
It's a well-known fact that no fewer than 99 percent of the Web's video content consists of pets doing crazy things, and an interesting new compilation sees some of our favorite animals showcase their skills on the Apple iPad.
The idea of having a projector built into a mobile phone has been around for a long time, although few have dared ventured into this arena. Remember the Pomegranate concept phone that made rounds of the internet sporting a projector unit? Or the rumored Mozilla device with the same capabilities? In reality, Samsung was one manufacturer back in 2012 that ventured with a smartphone carrying a projector with its Galaxy Beam Android smartphone, and while that showed that it can be done, it didn’t go much beyond that. Today, Samsung announced the successor to this unique device, in the form of Samsung Galaxy Beam 2 Android phone.
Up until this point, the Mountain View company has been pretty clear that Glass isn’t a product for everyone - all the way from its high price point to the fact that it was impossible for the masses to get one without an invite. In fact, Google had touted the device to be for explorers primarily - people living their lives on the edge and daring to do what others usually don’t. Well, all of that is changing now, as the Glass Store has been opened to everyone interested in getting their hands on the rather expensive and catchy eyewear!
