Chief Design Officer Jony Ive Has Left Apple Today

After first starting at Apple in 1992, Jony Ive is no longer around. It was announced earlier this year that Ive would be leaving Apple to set up his own design shop and now he’s been removed from the Apple Leadership page on the company’s website.

While we knew that Apple’s design chief was on his way out of the company, there had been no confirmation of exactly when that would happen.

Apple simply said that it would happen “later this year” at some point, and with the year drawing to a close it looks like Ive is now out.

He’ll now be focusing on his new design company, LoveFrom, which he has set up with fellow designer Marc Newson. However, Apple has already confirmed that it will be working with LoveFrom moving forward, although it’s unclear in what capacity Ive will function in those collaborations. His previous Apple design team now falls under COO, Jef Williams.

Apple has been around for so long it’s almost impossible to imagine an Apple without him. But in reality, at least according to multiple reports, Ive had already checked out of Apple a long time ago.

He reportedly rarely visited Apple’s offices and instead worked out of his own studio at home. If that is indeed accurate it’s debatable whether anything will change, at least looking in from the outside.
