Apple seems to be busily getting its developer releases out there today after the security breach which resulted in the entire system being dragged offline. Along with the news that iOS 7 beta 4 is finally making its appearance today, iTunes 11.1 has also been released to those registered to Apple's Developer Program. The updated iTunes 11.1 beta 1 is quite limited at this point, given that it only works on the fruit company’s very on OS X, but does include iTunes Radio integration for those living in the United States. Apple has been releasing new betas for iOS 7 like clockwork since its announcement at WWDC, with every second Monday seeing the fruit of the Cupertino company's development work. But the fourth beta saw a break in the release pattern due to a security breach over at the dev portal that happened about two weeks ago. But thankfully, Apple has been keen on fixing the security issues and after a early leak of iOS 7 beta 4 download links, it is now officially available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch on Dev Center.
For years, analysts, commentators and general tech fans have discussed the idea of Apple bringing a budget iPhone to the fore, but only this year does it finally appear as though such a device has a real chance of making its long-awaited debut. Talk has been particularly rife over the past three or four weeks, with several leaks of the supposed front and rear panels having surfaced throughout the blogosphere, and taking into consideration the current rumor and speculation, T3 has come up with a particularly beautiful 3D render.
After a lengthy eight day stretch of downtime, the Apple Dev Center is now finally back online, and so registered developers should be able to carry on about their business as usual. Late last week, it became apparent that systems were completely down, and after Apple stepped out and confirmed that it had been indeed subjected to a security breach, and that while all passwords and sensitive data were secure and out of reach of any hacker activity, it would be working on overhauling the system completely to prevent any such mishap from occurring in future. That initial memo was then followed by a server status update tool earlier this week, and now, just over a week after the Dev Center first went down, the main sections of the system are now back online.
Apple's Developer Portal has been offline for some time now, and with reports of a claimed security breach by a security researcher still echoing across the internet, the iPhone maker has today updated its users and developers on the situation, whilst also offering more information on how the company intends to restore service to its developer hub. The next-gen iPhone will probably take a similar form factor to the current flagship iPhone 5, leading many to believe the device will carry the 'iPhone 5S' moniker. However, Apple has a habit of changing things up and pulling the wool over everybody's eyes, so until we see the device as revealed perhaps later this year, there's scope for everybody to dream up their own ideas of the shape the next generation iPhone will take. That's exactly what designer Pritesh Chavan has done with his transforming iPhone 6 concept that sees the device unfold into a phablet-type device before eventually revealing another seam to create a fully-fledged tablet.
Apple has posted its earnings call for the third fiscal quarter leading up to June 29th, 2013, and although the numbers do not generally make for as impressive a reading as this time last year, the company's flagship iPhone smartphone continues to go from strength to strength. The company posted quarterly revenue of $35.3 billion (compared with $35 billion year-on-year), translating to a quarterly net profit of $6.9 billion ($8.8 billion), or $7.47 ($9.32) per diluted share.
Intel's astonishingly efficient Haswell processors have already worked wonders for the 2013 MacBook Air range, and KGI Securities' Ming-Chi Kuo - one of the more reliable Apple analysts out there - seems to believe the iMac could be the recipient of the new chip in a refresh set to roll out as early as next month. Furthermore, Kuo also believes Apple plans to roll out new MacBook Pros in September, which are also expected to be powered by Haswell.
According to reports coming from executives within official supply chains, Apple is in the middle of testing large-form displays that could potentially be used as part of any future iPhone or iPad product refresh. The fresh reports are suggesting that the Cupertino based company has been working closely with Asian suppliers on a number of potential changes that could include the release of a significantly larger iPad model, or even an iPhone phablet.
It's been a while since we had a good Apple patent that got our juices flowing, but this latest one somehow manages to get us excited and rather dismayed both at the same time. The patent in question is called 'Projected display shared workspaces' and while the name may be particularly uninteresting, the technology it promises is actually far more interesting than it sounds.
