Bloomberg: Apple Is Working On An Apple Silicon Mac Pro In Smaller Size

Apple is working on its transition from Intel chips to Apple silicon and Bloomberg reports that the company already has a new smaller Mac Pro in the works; and yes, it’ll be powered by Apple’s own silicon.

We’re expecting Apple to announce new Macs with Apple silicon during next week’s “One more thing” event, but they’re thought to be of the portable variety.

That doesn’t mean a new Mac Pro isn’t in the works, and Bloomberg says it’s coming.

Apple engineers are currently developing a new ‌Mac Pro‌ that looks like the current design at about half the size. It’s unclear if that Mac will replace the current ‌Mac Pro‌ or if it’s an additional model. Apple’s chip designs could help the company reduce the size of its computers due to increased power efficiency, but the current ‌Mac Pro‌ is large, in part, to fit components like additional storage drives and graphics chips.

The current Mac Pro was released in late 2019 and was a huge departure for Apple’s high-end lineup. The thought of a new machine coming with new silicon is interesting in itself, particularly for those who spent anything up to $50,000 on a high specification Intel model recently.

Apple’s event will take place on November 10 and while we don’t expect a Mac Pro, the smart money is on a new 13-inch MacBook Pro and maybe even a 16-inch MacBook Pro debuting.
