Metro / Modern Firefox Browser For Windows 8 Being Handed Out To Testers, Public Launch Soon

Ben Reid·February 13, 2013
Mozilla's biggest export is Firefox, and with Windows 8 having been in circulation for a few months now, the next stage of preparations for a version of the popular browser tailored to Microsoft's latest OS release have begun. Last week, the Metro/Modern-ized browser reached Mozilla's nightly build channel, and today, it has reached Mozilla-central. Although Firefox desktop product manager Asa Dotzler confessed there is still "plenty of work" to be done, it has now reached a point where it is stable enough for regular testing.

HTC Teases Its Upcoming ‘One’ Handset With New Promotional Countdown Page To Launch Event On February 19th

Ben Reid·February 13, 2013
After the spec'd-out One X and One X+ failed to make the desired impression on an Android user base concerned primarily with Samsung-branded handsets, HTC is back with a new flagship device, and is doing its level best to gather some momentum behind it. The HTC One, which has been the subject of quite a few carefully-engineered leaks, is going to be showcased very, very soon - on February 19th, in fact - and in anticipation for its special launch event in New York City on that very date, the 'quietly brilliant' Taiwanese manufacturer has been running special promo page (complete with a countdown timer) on its Web page.

Apple’s New Antenna Patent Could Pave The Way For An All-Aluminum iPhone

Ben Reid·February 13, 2013
Apple is renowned for meticulously, almost obsessively arranging each element of its vast product range, with every detail carefully placed in order to facilitate the sleekest of finishes. The iPhone 5 is a fine example of a well-designed smartphone, and with the introduction of a partial aluminum finish to the argument, many have lauded it as the most aesthetically-pleasing to date. But surely, a shell fully-enclosed in the light, robust material has to be seen as the ultimate dream, and a recent patent award to Apple concerning the antenna suggests such a dream could soon become reality.

Real Racing 3 Free-to-Play Title For iOS And Android Releasing On February 28th

Ben Reid·February 13, 2013
Electronic Arts has announced that the third release from its popular Real Racing series will be landing at the Google Play Store for Android, and the App Store for iOS, as of the 28th February. The iPhone 5 launch gave us a glimpse of things to come from Real Racing 3, but while the snippets appeared remnant of Gran Turismo, fans have had to wait quite a while for a solid release date. Now, the wait appears to be almost over, and by the end of the month - provided no unforeseen delays crop up - the mobile arena's favorite racer will be back for a third lap.

Nike Ditches Plans For FuelBand Android App, Sticks With iOS And Web

Ben Reid·February 12, 2013
Nike has enjoyed great success in its ongoing partnership with Apple, to bring its sporting and athlete-focused technologies to first the iPod, and more recently, iOS devices. The FuelBand, in particular, has been a huge hit among active folks, and although wireless syncing for iOS is nothing new, those of the supposition that such an Android app would follow suit have today had their dreams abruptly shot down.

ProCutX For iPad Lets You Control Final Cut Pro X On Mac

Ben Reid·February 10, 2013
As any video editing enthusiast will know, Final Cut Pro X is regarded among the authority in motion picture manipulation. The app, which, is Mac-only, offers an extremely powerful toolset, but in terms of mobile options for those looking to take their work on the move, the number - and quality - of apps favors those requiring a less involved experience. ProCutX For iPad breaks the mold, offering a very rich set of tools, and although it naturally doesn't offer quite as many tools as FCPX, it links in nicely with the revered desktop app.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1.1 Untethered Using Redsn0w / Evasi0n [Tutorial]

Ben Reid·February 9, 2013
The ongoing cat-and-mouse battle between Apple and the jailbreak scene took a huge swing in favor of the latter on Monday, with the release of the Evasi0n jailbreak tool. Not only did it offer a solution for every iOS device on the market, the jailbreak was also untethered in nature, meaning once the jailbreak was applied, users could enjoy an uninterrupted experience. With the release of iOS 6.1.1 beta 1 for developers, it was presumed Apple had - as it tends to do with all jailbreaks - patched the hole allowing for the userland exploit and subsequent jailbreak, but in short, they haven't, though they will likely patch it in the next beta or at least before iOS 6.1.1 is public.
