Arlo Ultra, Netatmo Weather Station Get HomeKit Support

The number of HomeKit-capable accessories and devices continues to grow, with two new bits of kit having now been updated to support Apple’s smart home system. Both Arlo Ultra and Netatmo Weather Station can take advantage of HomeKit as of right now.

The Arlo Ultra update is one that we’ve been waiting for. Arlo announced that the functionality would be coming earlier this year and the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 hardware has had similar updates before now. The free firmware update needed to add HomeKit support is now rolling out, so if you don’t see it yet, it may just be a matter of time.

With HomeKit support Arlo Ultra users will be able to use the Home app to receive notifications when motion is detected. Automation is also now possible via the Home automations system.

The Netatmo Weather Station is now compatible with HomeKit, too. You’ll need a model built after October 2016, with older hardware unfortunately left out in the cold.

You can check yours by going to the Netatmo Weather app and then Settings > Station Name > Indoor Module > Hardware version. If you see V3, you’re good to go. Anything else and you’re unfortunately out of luck.

With HomeKit support, the weather station will now populate the Home app with its data. Owners can ask Siri for temperature information as well and again, automations are supported, too.
